eBay Before you lies an evenly graded, higher-end matched set of The Ohio National Bank of Columbus, Columbus’ 11th chartered National bank: Charter #5065. Originally chartered as a state bank, May 2nd, 1888, as the Ohio Savings Bank of Columbus. It was Federally chartered by the Comptroller of US Currency in 1897. By 1914 they built their first building of neo-classical architecture which still stands at 167 S. High Street. In 1921 they purchased a much larger building, The Citizens Trust and Savings Building at 51 N. High St where it made its new headquarters. That building, today, stands as The Citizens Apartment House. Ohio National Bank changed its name to BancOhio in the late 1970’s and, at the time, it was Ohio’s largest holding company with assets of $2.327 billion. In the 1980s, BancOhio was a state-wide retail bank with assets of $5.5 billion and 269 branches; however, it had grown too fast and had made poor-quality loans that clouded its earnings picture. In 1984, BancOhio merged with National City Corp. National City Corp was a very large bank holding company in Cleveland Ohio. It was quite strong until it entered the sub-prime market of 2000-2006. By 2008 huge losses occurred amounting to almost three-fourths of a billion dollars. It was then acquired by the Pittsburg PNC banking organization. This set is the 1929-1 series. All of these notes are new to the census as Third Party Graded. All are conservatively graded as EF by PMG according to their standards. Two of these are EPQ. There are no pinholes nor tears in any of these notes; just slight wear of highly respectable quality. Only there faintest of crease folds are to be seen when held up to a bright light. You will be purchasing a set which has been throughly vetted as EF by third party standards; no guessing with ungraded notes, and in years to come, will retain their value by this grade. Why purchase an ungraded note « said to be EF » when these have been graded by third party « experts. » Normal grade for these notes is about VF20/25. Again, these are TRUE EFs with no guessing. Choice CU notes have recently (2021-2022) sold for $400 to $500 each. Surely an EF and third party graded notes are worth +/-$215 per note!! Most of the time you will see this come to the market as ungraded notes in F and VF condition. They are abundant in these grades. But in true EF AND Third Party Graded AND as a SET, this is few and far between. This is worthy every bit of this price of $649. That’s only +/-$220 average/note. We challenge you to put together one on your own at this price and with Third Party Grading!! There are a total of approximately 500 small size notes known on this bank. Of the total, about 325 are of the 1929-1 series. The known 1902 PB population: T&P NBNC Sellers Count $5: 71 60 87; $10: 107 101 123; $20: 111 83 115. It is possible to know the bracketed date when all of these notes were issued. They all show the signatures of L.A. Stoner as cashier and Edwin Buchanan as president. The inception of these two officers began late 1932 to through 1934 a span of only two years. Pricing: We consider prices from about 2009 to present relevant.
