Beautiful pitcher with incredible detail work, from Germany at the roots of stoneware making. Legendary Germanic artisans like the Remmy’s and the Crolius families came to America in the early years, escaping political and religious persecution. These artisans, many from the Westerwald Region, brought with them the secrets of making stoneware.Stoneware became a valued trade in the mid 1700’s in America and examples like this are evidence of the incredible work these artisans could produce. This is a pitcher, complete with its pewter lid, which stands 11 1/2″ tall (inc. the lid) and 6″ wide at the belly. The pitcher is covered in hand cut work, accented in blue cobalt glaze.
