Vintage original cancelled personal check from the bank account of motion picture art, singer, and television host GORDON MACRAE. Drawn from his account at Bank of America in Beverly Hills, California, Mr. MacRae wrote this check on February 13, 1951 to the famous Mocombo nightclub. It features Gordon MacRae’s signature with another signature (presumably his accountant or other businessperson) beneath his. It is in fine- condition with two light diagonal creases through his printed name/address at the top and a crease immediately to the left of his signature at the bottom. There are no flaws to Mr. MacRae’s signature which is fresh and vibrant. Silent Cinema Inc. (the seller here) guarantees the authenticity of Gordon MacRae’s signature.Albert Gordon MacRae (March 12, 1921 – January 24, 1986) was an American actor, singer and radio/television host, who appeared in the film versions of two Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals, Oklahoma! (1955) and Carousel (1956), and played the leading man of Doris Day in On Moonlight Bay (1951) and sequel, By The Light of the Silvery Moon.The Mocambo was a nightclub in West Hollywood, California, at 8588 Sunset Boulevard on the Sunset Strip. It was owned by Charlie Morrison and Felix Young. The Mocambo opened on January 3, 1941, and became an immediate success. The club’s Latin American-themed decor designed by Tony Duquette cost $100,000 (equivalent to $1,738,235 in 2019). Along the walls were glass cages holding live cockatoos, macaws, seagulls, pigeons, and parrots. With big band music, the club became one of the most popular dance-till-dawn spots in town. On any given night, one might find the room filled with the leading men and women of the motion picture industry. In 1943, when Frank Sinatra became a solo act, he made his Los Angeles debut at the Mocambo.
