Consequences of revocation
If you revoke this contract, we have paid you all payments that we have received from you, including the delivery costs (with the exception of the additional costs resulting from the fact that you have chosen a different type of delivery than the cheapest standard delivery offered by us have), immediately and at the latest within fourteen days from the day on which we received the notification of your cancellation of this contract. Joan of Arc, also known as the Maid of Orleans, is one of the most famous figures in French history and a central figure in the Hundred Years’ War between France and England. Born around 1412 in Domrémy, a small village in Lorraine, Joan was a simple peasant girl with deep religious convictions. At around the age of 13, she began to hear visions and voices from saints such as the Archangel Michael, Saint Margaret and Saint Catherine. These voices urged her to free France from English occupation and help the Dauphin Charles VII to the throne. These visions gave Joan the courage to embark on a mission that would make her one of France’s greatest heroines. In 1429, she managed to arrange a meeting with the Dauphin, who gave her command of a small army, despite her youthful inexperience and humble background. Joan led these troops to a series of decisive victories, including the liberation of Orléans, which earned her the nickname « Maid of Orleans. » Her successes strengthened the French resistance against the English and led to the coronation of Charles VII in Reims. Joan’s success did not last long, however. In 1430, she was captured during a military campaign by the Burgundians, who handed her over to the English. She was tried in an ecclesiastical court in Rouen for heresy, apostasy, and wearing men’s clothing. Despite her innocence and brave defense, Joan was sentenced to death and burned at the stake on May 30, 1431. She was just 19 years old. Joan of Arc was posthumously rehabilitated in a retrial in 1456, when the court’s verdict against her was overturned. She was finally canonized by the Catholic Church in 1920. Today, Joan of Arc is a symbol of courage, faith and patriotic devotion, and is revered both in France and around the world. Her legacy as a national heroine and martyr will never be forgotten.
