eBay Silk Shirt Wrinkles- First off, sorry about the wrinkles. There is a good reason on why the wrinkles are there. Once I buy a silk shirt I don’t hang it up but instead fold it up and put it in a secure breathable container so no bugs can munch on it. You know those moths & silverfish love to poke holes in silk items if they get a chance. Now I’ve never seen a silk moth or bugs around my clothing items before, but as mom always said, « better to be safe than sorry. » I’d hate to learn an expensive lesson since these Tori Richard silk shirts aren’t cheap. So that’s why the shirt is wrinkled in the pictures. Why Not Remove The Wrinkles Prior?- I could’ve easily steamed out the wrinkles for the ebay listing pictures but I was thinking the silk shirt is going to end up at your doorstep wrinkled/creased anyways because I ship out all my high end shirts in a USPS Priority Mail padded envelope. I don’t ship silk shirts in a cardboard box because even though it will arrive with less wrinkles, it will have major fold creases which won’t go away unless heat or steam is used. Silk is considered a delicate fabric so any fold or crumple will cause wrinkles pretty easy unlike thicker clothing materials. If you’ve ever gotten a silk top in the mail before it most likely looked like somebody was practicing their origami skills on it. LOL! Leaving a silk shirt as is with wrinkles and all also prepares you in advance that you will need some type of wrinkle removing device which I will go over in the following paragraph. So How Do You Remove The Wrinkles At Home?- Actually, it’s pretty easy. You have basically 2 options. You can either iron it on your iron’s silk setting or steam it with a handheld steamer. Tori Richard’s stores prefer handheld steamers which is why I only use a handheld steamer on these silk blended shirts. Steaming is not only easier but also you’re less likely to damage your silk garment due to human error. I know most people have an iron but not all have a handheld steamer. I would seriously consider you getting a handheld steamer if you don’t have one. It would make your life so much easier and a basic handheld steamer is relatively inexpensive compared to the price of this silk shirt. Whatever option you choose, just remember to iron inside out or steam from the inside. Lastly, you always want to iron or steam your entire shirt and not just spot steam or iron. Doing the entire shirt helps prevents water spot stains. Now if you don’t feel like doing any 1 of these 2 options or don’t have any of these wrinkle removing devices you can always just take the silk shirt to the dry cleaners and they will get rid of the wrinkles for a fee. How Will This Tori Richard Shirt Fit On Me?- I know some of you may have never bought a Tori Richard Hawaiian shirt or any Hawaiian shirt before so I’ll try to simplify on how this Hawaiian silk shirt should fit on you. Being from Hawaii, I do have first hand knowledge on how Hawaiian shirts fit. LOL! First off, this Tori Richard Hawaiian silk shirt is not made to be tucked in because it would get wrinkled and most likely damaged. This is why Tori Richard Hawaiian silk shirts are typically shorter than your standard say polo or dress shirt. So if you’re super tall and fit a medium then this Tori Richard shirt will most likely be way too short for you. In terms of chest size, Hawaiian shirts are typically wider in the across chest measurement(armpit to armpit) versus a polo collared shirt or a typical t-shirt. I sell a lot of polo shirts and athletic t-shirts so I’ll give you a real life comparison in terms of across chest measurements for all 3 of these types of shirts in a size MEDIUM. The standard or average size men’s across chest measurement for a large shirt is 22″ for most brands sold in the United states. I’ve measured thousands of shirts so I should know. Haha! Now if you are a tweener, say you can fit a large and sometimes an extra large shirt than downsizing to a medium Hawaiian shirt will absolutely not work for you. This medium Tori Richard shirt will be too tight for you and you will definitely need a large Tori Richard shirt. To verify if you can downsize to this medium Tori Richard shirt, just grab a yard stick or tape measure and measure any comfortable large shirt of yours armpit to armpit laying flat on a table. If your comfortable large shirt reads 22″ or less pit to pit than you can safely downsize from a large to this medium Tori Richard Hawaiian shirt. Downsizing is the only true way to get a slimmer tailored look when it comes to buying most Hawaiian shirts. Is buying A « Delicate » Silk Shirt Worth The Hassles?- Absolutely! I like many others have for some unknown reasons have stigmatized silk as fragile, « can’t get wet » or it shrinks easily. Nothing could be further from the truth as I have come to learn. Silk is actually super durable even though it’s lightweight & super soft. Here’s a fact you probably didn’t know about silk. A silk thread is actually 4 times tougher than a steel thread of the same thickness. Wow! This is why depending on the quality of the silk, a silk garment could last a lifetime with the proper care. I personally have talked to people who have owned a Tori Richard silk shirt for decade(s) and they still wear it till this day. Silk can’t get wet is another misconception people have. Yeah, for sure some super delicate silks like chiffon do not do well when it gets wet but the majority of silk garments are totally fine in light rain or being hand washed in water. Lastly, silk shrinks easily? It will without the proper care like any other fabric. Linens, bed sheets, cotton shirts will all shrink if you throw them in the dryer. Silk is no different. Just avoid throwing your silk shirt in the dryer. Always air dry. Simple. Bottom line, improper care & human error is why silk garments shrink. It has absolutely nothing to do with the silk fabric itself. Hopefully, I eased your mind on buying a silk shirt from me in the future. If not, maybe this fact will. Silk blend shirts are typically known to be more durable, better at resisting water stains and breathability is greatly improved because of the added fibers which in this case is Lyocell a semi-synthetic fiber. Dry Clean Only Note- According to the instructions on the tag of the shirt, this Tori Richard silk blend shirt is Dry Clean Only. However, we all know lot’s of dry clean only items can be hand washed and hung dry after. If you decide you want to save some money and try the hand wash method, always get an expert opinion before attempting to hand wash this silk shirt. Maybe ask a dry cleaner or even email or call Tori Richard. Water affects silk in many ways. Some silk shirts react well to water while others don’t and get totally ruined. Extra Things I Do To Offset A No Return Policy I know a no return policy does affect my sales which is why I ALWAYS go above and beyond when describing and photographing my eBay items so there are absolutely no « surprises » when you receive an item from me. Some of the extra things I do are listed below: I ship out items no later then the next business day. Sometimes I ship Saturdays if I have free time. If asked and I have the time, I will ship out the item the same day if a customer needs the item ASAP say for a birthday gift, athletic event such as a football/soccer game or an upcoming trip. Not a problem if they message me early enough and I have no prior commitments for that day or even Saturday. I list overall measurements for pretty much all my clothing items. Listing measurements for a clothing item may seem trivial to you, but it literally doubles the time it takes me to list an item on eBay. Ask any eBay clothing seller, the extra time it takes to take out a yard stick/tape measure then write or input these measurements for a huge pile of eBay clothing items is time consuming & gets a little irritating to say the least. I try to describe to the best of my ability if an item runs small or big and point out flaws no matter how tiny they are. Things that I point out regularly that most sellers don’t are store fastener tag/anti-theft tag pinholes, wrinkles/creases in jersey graphics, pepper sized scuffs on shoes and as stated previously if an item runs small or big. I respond to all buyers questions before and after the sale in a timely matter as long as our time zones mesh. They really only knew the basics like « I wear a medium shirt and a 33″ waist pants. » I would say after measuring thousands of clothing items, a medium in one brand can be sized much smaller or bigger than a medium in another brand because of the design cut or the material itself. This is why any customer of mine who were reluctantly forced to finally figure out their technical clothing measurements because of my no buyer’s remorse refunds brings a smile to my face. I 100% know they will definitely save money and time in their future online clothing purchases because a lot of online businesses charge a 10 to 25 percent return restocking fee for sizing issues and let’s face it; it’s a hassle and a big waste of time to return something online.
