This vintage brooch from the 1950s is a beautiful piece of West German craftsmanship. The Fleur-De-Lis design with a cross represents the Virgin Mary and is a symbol of purity or innocence. The brooch features an older style round hinge and a straight brooch backing with a long pin for easy wear. Please note, the backing appears to be original to the piece, but a much earlier design. The locking mechanism is loose, but holds the pin in place. The rhinestone main stone is lab-created and has an Aurora Borealis treatment which gives it a beautiful blue color. The brooch measures 1.8 inches in length and 1.3 inches in width. The Fleur-de-lis has a cross embossed on the stem. The symbol is know to be both heraldic and also a representation of the Virgin Mary, symbolizing purity and innocence. This handmade piece has lightly painted white accents to further symbolize purity, and is made with layered construction with soldered connections. The underlying metal is gold-tone and believe the base metal to be brass (there is a little verdigris on the backing's soldered connection) with gold-plating applied. It is simply marked « Western Germany » in a cartouche on the backside. The metal is very thin and bends very easily, so the piece is in wonderful condition considering the age. With red, green, blue, and black accents, this brooch is perfect for any occasion, including engagement, graduation, wedding, anniversary, birthday, christening, confirmation/communion, Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, or Father's Day.
