Reviews about this Reading Scheme … The FIRST BOOK I EVER READ … In the days when we learned to read with Dick and Jane The primers gave you the tools to learn to read and Fun With Dick and Jane was the first we read that in a fashion had a story to it. I bought the book for the nostalgia value and to see these books again after 50 years brings back a lot of memories. A TREASURE of a find !! …. t is a shame that schools no longer use the « Dick and Jane family » for teaching reading. It reads like a novel to my just-turned 6 yr old and she is very interested in all the stories so much so that she does not realiSe she is working hard at learning the new words and remembering them once she has sounded out the words so that she recogniSes them easily because she is so interested in the story line. When I read with my granddaughter at home we focus more on the stories and the « what happens next » as we turn the pages so much so that reading is fun. I learned to read myself with these books which I find fascinating to see again after 60+ years. My granddaughter is also learning something of the past as I have to explain what a rotary phone is and other depictions which are clearly « olden days ». EASY READING FUN!! …. The stories are actually fun. Dick and Jane go to the farm with their dad and each get to pick an animal to bring home as a pet. Find out what happens with the pets when they get home! My daughter is reading this book now and likes it. Simple sight words put together to make a real story in chapter form. Guaranteed reading success! A MOM KIND OF MEMORY … My mother read this to me when I was in her womb. She told me years later that I asked her about Dick and Jane. She thought it was weird because she hadn’t read it to me since I was in her tummy. It was my first book and I was honored to be able to find another copy. It really hold special meanings for me.
